A blot on the landscape. Should never be allowed

Completely agree that any cables. work should be underground. We are destroying our country enough as it is, and the beauty of the countryside is absolutely priceless, it supports a wealth of other living creatures, and gives so much pleasure to the beholder. There has been no thought for the people that actually live in the area, or the people who want to enjoy such amazing views. We should be passing this on to our children, grandchildren, and all humanity.

This proposal will ruin this area!

Bute Energy’s proposal to build 20 wind farms across a beautiful part of Wales represents an act of environmental vandalism. They major on their green credentials as if it is like growing trees / plants, and yet the project involves the construction of enormous wind turbines and a massive network of substations and pylons across 60 miles of beautiful landscape. The latter alone at 250 metres apart would create a string of at least 386 massive steel structures littering the countryside. Examples of these ugly structures are plain to be seen across the southern half of Wales; greeting you as you pass the “Welcome to Wales” sign across the Severn Bridge and when you enter Pembrokeshire near St Clears.

Think of all the concrete and steel that goes into this construction, the costs in use (the life of a wind turbine is only 20 / 25 years and circa 10 / 15 before a major re-powering) and not-withstanding the complete eyesore, think of all the bats and birds that are killed “when” the blades are rotating. Not very eco-friendly !

We are fortunate that the water, gas and even the oil industry bury their supply infrastructure. Why can’t the electricity renewable sector, with their “green” credentials do the same? The Tywi Valley, one of Wales’ most attractive and historic landscapes is in the words of Natural Resources Wales “recognised as of national historic significance, principally as a setting to a unique collection of designed parks and gardens and for the inspiration it has provided to artists and writers since the Medieval period”. The landscape has not changed, but will, to the detriment, if the pylon scheme is allowed to proceed. Are the Welsh government honestly going to allow a Scottish / Danish company to despoil our heritage ? And for what ? An investment scheme that earns remote investors millions in tax payers’ subsidy to produce a power source of dubious viability.

The county of Dorset has recently completed a substantial undergrounding scheme north-west of Weymouth and the landscape there is not on a par with that of the Tywi. Many other countries are now endeavouring to place all of their cables underground, including the Netherland, Germany and India. Why can’t Wales ?

We have lost many of our traditional industries and now rely heavily on the countryside for tourism; we need to cherish it!!!

Please don’t ruin this area of outstanding natural beauty and put our health at risk. Is there a greener option or could the electricity lines be put underground? A Pylon will be next to our garden, this will buzz especially when it is wet and devalue our property. It will also be too close to Cwrt Henri primary school and most people accept that there is probably a link between childhood leukaemia and children who spend a lot of time near electricity pylons.

Send the cable down the railway line??

Or put the turbines on the hills by Ammanford. Near to the sub station, the M4f or access and to large industry, manufacturing and a larger population.
